Unwritten + Review + Giveaway ~ Beyond The Edge by Kallysten

As Brett Andrews, owner of the famous club On The Edge, reaches the big ‘four-O,’ he has one request and one question for his two vampire lovers, Leo and Lisa: he doesn’t want them to organize any sort of celebration for him – but he does want to know why neither of them has ever mentioned the possibility of turning him into a vampire.

The question finds an answer, and the three of them share a promise for the year to come. His request, on the other hand, is doomed from the start as they already have plans for the big day: they have a gift for him to match presents he offered each of them, and the party they planned with help from a couple of friends promises to be something special.

Vampire Anando and his human lover Virginia met at On The Edge. They are friends and occasional lovers of Leo, Brett and Lisa. When asked, they gladly accept to host the big-bash birthday party – and the private after-party, too. A good time is had by all, but the last gift is only revealed a few weeks later, to be delivered after nine months.

With both humans in love with vampires, neither expected a child in their future. As for the vampires, they knew for a fact that they’d never become parents. For all five, once the first shock has passed, decisions have to be made. Will this new adventure strengthen bonds of love and friendship, or will it tear lives apart?

Bonus Scene from Beyond The Edge

Brett was working on his computer when two knocks on the glass door caused him to look up. John, his head of security, was standing in the office doorway, his large frame taking up most of the opening.

“What’s up?” Brett asked, gesturing to invite him in.

John came forward and sat in the chair opposite Brett’s.

“Just wanted to check the changes you made for tomorrow’s schedule,” John said in his low, rumbling voice. “You’ve got me plus two other guards on. You expecting trouble?”

Brett shook his head. “No trouble, or at least I hope not. I won’t be in at all, so I’m leaving you in charge of the club.”

For a brief moment, John frowned, then his eyebrows rose in understanding. “Oh. Your birthday, huh? Big plans for the night?”

He offered a grin as he finished. They’d been working together long enough to develop a solid friendship, and Brett had never been secretive about his love life.

“If it were up to me,” he started, but John’s laugh interrupted him.

“Big plans,” John said, and it wasn’t a question anymore. “Two against one, they’ve got you beat, boss.”

Brett chortled as John left the office. Two against one, indeed. He’d asked Lisa and Leo not to organize anything special for his birthday. A nice dinner at home would have been just fine as far as he was concerned. His lovers, however, had hinted that they had plans, and Brett could only imagine what those were.

As he sat back in his chair, his gaze instinctively drifted up to the ceiling. Leo and Lisa were up there, in the loft the three of them shared. Were they putting the last touch to their plans? Or were they in bed, maybe, enjoying a bit of afternoon fun while waiting for him?

Brett had no doubt that his birthday would include a generous amount of bedroom activities, and he also knew his lovers would make it all about him since it was his birthday. A beautiful woman, a sensuous man, two talented mouths and wicked pairs of hands, all for him… He shifted in his chair, adjusting his pants over his hardening cock. He was a lucky man, and he knew it.

What else had they planned?

Part of him hoped… But no, it was stupid. In all the years they’d been together, neither Leo nor Lisa had ever voiced the idea of turning him into a vampire like them. Lisa had never even bitten him for that matter, even when she’d watched countless times as Leo did just that, much to Brett’s delight.

Should he raise the topic first? He’d been waiting for one of them to ask if he wanted it, but he was about to turn forty. How long could he wait?

In that moment, he made up his mind. Tomorrow, he’d breach the subject, and see how they reacted. And who knew, maybe before the end of the day he’d be a changed man…

For those who have read Kallysten’s On The Edge and/or Out of the Box series you are familiar with these fabulous characters. While I haven't read every installment of the series I have spent several memorable hours reading the antics of Virginia, Anando, Brett, Lisa and especially Leo. I hate to play favorites, but Leo has always been the one. He had lots of great scenes in this book. I consider this is a capstone story. The author's writing style really shines through; it is both sensual and emotional. Kallysten always seems to push the envelope; never sure where the storylines are going to take me next. Even with the cover giving away what I considered a large item, there is plenty left to reveal.

  9. I am a SWAG addict. I recently got a first aid kit that said "In Case of Vampire Attack". I like to collect things that are uniquely connected to the books or author.

It is the same when I do conventions for work I try to offer things that not everyone else is giving away. It seems to attract more people to my booth. Because who really wants to discuss data analysis - other that me.

  10. I enjoy books in swag packs. I get kind of sick of bookmarks unless they are original in some way. Like in one swag pack, I received these little leaf bookmarks. It looked like little greenery was growing out of my books! I loved those! I also like something original. Not just chapstick, a keychain or a pen, something creative like a frog-shaped lollipop or a head massager that looks like an alien. (I have received both of those and thought they were adorable!)
