Guest Post + Spotlight ~ The Reunion by Adriana Kraft

Thanks so much for having me here today. Hubs and I are so excited – our newest release, The Reunion, is *FREE* today through Thursday at Amazon! It’s already received several five star reviews at Amazon, and a Top Pick at Night Owl Reviews.
TURNING POINTS
When you read a book, do you ever stop to think about what the turning point might be? As authors, we have to think about that all the time.

One of my favorite turning points is in Jane Austen’s Emma. It’s very close to the end – in a sense, once the turnabout has been made, there’s often not much story left to tell. Emma has been ever-so-gradually transforming from a self centered, opinionated and meddling young woman, but she has yet to make that final step. In the scene I’m thinking about, she’s taking her exercise in the shrubbery, and Knightly joins her. She seizes the moment, asks him to take one more turn on the path, and finally dares to speak her heart.

Two of our three main characters in The Reunion likewise undergo significant transformation across the span of the book. Sarah’s not unlike Emma – prejudiced, somewhat self centered, going after what she wants and not especially considering the effect on others. Adam resembles Bronte’s Heathcliff more than Austen’s Knightly – he seems to carry a chip on his shoulder, he’s unaware of his own feelings, and he mostly pushes people away rather than inviting them in. He does have a soft underbelly, as his live-in lover Maria is well aware.

But when I think about the real turning point of this book, it seems to me it actually happens off the page, before the book even opens: For some reason, perhaps unknown to each of these two characters, they have already made a change. After twenty years of turning their backs on the small Iowa town where they grew up, they’ve chosen to check in on their high school classmates at the twentieth reunion.

Was Adam subconsciously hoping to find out whatever happened to his high school crush who was always out of reach? Was Sarah simply trolling for something new, coming out of her second divorce, or was she also reaching back to check on some unfinished business? We’ll never know (they sure didn’t tell us while we were writing their story). But I love how this apparently insignificant change, perhaps a decision made on a whim, opens up the possibility for everything else that ensues in their story.

We haven’t forgotten about Maria, who has a somewhat different journey to make. I’ll be back on tomorrow’s tour stop, http://mamakittyreviews.com/, with a glimpse into her story.

Dark and brooding, Adam Granger was always the bad boy out of reach—but now he’s in Sarah Atkinson’s bed, the morning after their twentieth high school reunion. When Adam beats a retreat to his Pacific Palisades estate, former good girl Sarah throws caution to the wind and pursues him.

Petite copper-skinned Maria Ramirez greets Sarah at Adam’s front door. The former exotic dancer doesn’t challenge Sarah’s assumption she’s the maid—how long will it take the dark-haired beauty to figure out Maria is Adam’s live-in lover? Better yet, how long before Maria can entice her into their bed?

Determined not to rock his hard-won lifestyle, Adam resolves to push Sarah past her sexual limits so she’ll leave. When she stays, he watches helplessly as the two women fall in love with each other. Will they shut him out? And, if they let him in, what must he sacrifice?

TOP PICK at Night Owl Reviews

"The Reunion" by Adriana Kraft is a polyamory novel with real edgy characters with inclusive sexuality. I will just say this is not a read for the faint of heart. … I found "The Reunion" a very easy flowing smooth read. All the characters are well developed and so colorful. Once you start to reading you will be hard put to stop until you are at the end. … Very well written! ArlenaDean  Link

EXCERPT

Cranking one eye open, Sarah Atkinson confirmed the obvious. There was a man in her bed. She hadn’t seen one of them naked in years.
She carefully memorized his rippling muscles rising and falling gently in sleep. The dark-haired hunk wasn’t just any man. He was Adam Granger!
Absently, Sarah threaded fingers through her moist pussy curls. Her loins ached from overuse. Recalling the late night and early morning ravishment still sent tingles racing throughout her body.
He’d taken her. Make no mistake about that. They hadn’t made love. They’d had wild, abandoned sex. He’d taken her. Not against her will. Hardly!
Sarah flung an arm across her brow. But why now? Why after twenty years?
The reunion...the Bumper High School twenty-year reunion. Bumper, Iowa. How she’d hated that town. She’d wanted more excitement, more challenge, more of everything. She’d never ventured back for a reunion. Apparently, Adam hadn’t either. But this time, maybe because it was the twentieth, maybe because of curiosity, maybe because of something ephemeral, she’d come from Chicago and he from Los Angeles.
