My experiences as a newly published author….well, I can say it’s been one helluva ride. I never knew what authors really had to go through to get their books out to the readers.
First off, I always knew…wait go back…since my first creative writing course in college, I knew I wanted to write a book. That’s been over eight years ago. I had a gay feminist professor that entire syllabus was novel discussion. All the novels were fiction but focused on women’s liberation…but all I kept picturing were men. Men coming together and loving each other.
I bought my first gay romance novel that year…and I’ve been hooked every since.
Blue Moon had been brewing and evolving in my head for quite some time before I finally decided to let my mind release it last year. I let it sit for a few months before mustering up the courage to send it to a publisher.
The first two that I sent Blue Moon to rejected me and I was devastated. I thought that the novel that I’d built up over six years was a unique approach to the beautiful gay romance genre…but someone else didn’t think that. Well after my husband convinced me to send it to two more publishers, I got a bite.
To say the least…the start to finish process has been: fun, exciting, terrifying, complicated, exhausting, interesting, and any other emotion one can have. One thing is my publisher Amira Press has been wonderful. They have so many accomplished seasoned authors, but they were very patient with me and teaching me the ropes.
Next, was the marketing and promotions….whew. I don’t even have to go into the complexities of: street teams, blog tours, social medias, group posts, beta readers, reviewers, author accounts, etc. At least it was complex to me because I never utilized these avenues when I shopped for books…I just read synopsis and bought books.
The most fun has been connecting with authors that I’ve been fans of for years; they’ve welcomed me with open arms. It’s been a blast and I’m just getting started. The next novel is already contracted by Amira Press and with an editor. Now that I’ve got a taste of this unique, life-altering experience…I’m addicted.
I hope the readers enjoy my first novel and look forward to what’s coming next.

A.E. Via graduated in May of 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Virginia Wesleyan College.
She's a new author to the beautiful gay erotic genre. Her writing embodies everything from spicy to scandalous. Her stories often include intriguing edges and twists that take readers to new, thought-provoking depths.
When she’s not clicking away at her laptop, A.E. runs a very successful paralegal-for-hire business and in her spare time, she devotes herself to her family – a husband and four children – her two pets, a Maltese dog and her white Siamese cat, ELynn, named after the late great gay romance author ELynn Harris.
While Blue Moon is her first novel, she has plenty more to come...so sit back and grab a cool drink, because the male on male action is just heating up!
