Interview + Spotlight ~ Paper Wishes by Jennifer M. Eaton

Paper Wishes follows Jack and Jill on their journey from friendship to love over Christmas and New Years in two heartwarming stories.

Connect the Dots: Jill writes her most intimate Christmas wish to God—and throws it away for its ridiculousness—but Christmas wishes have a way of coming true, even when you don’t know what you’ve wished for.

A Test of Faith: One day after her Christmas wish comes true, Jill faces a wrenching choice that tests her deepest beliefs. Will love prevail over conviction, or is happiness nothing more than a fairytale?

Christmas Memories

Christmas was always a big deal at my house. As an adult, looking back, one of my fondest memories was of my parents fighting.

Huh? What did you just say?

Yes, it was of my parents fighting. Looking back, and remembering what they fought about at Christmas really warms my heart.

You see, my Mom was a bit of a neat freak. We had a formal living room, and the kids were never allowed in there unless we had company, and even then it was under supervision. That room was always kept perfectly neat in case someone arrived unexpectedly.

So, why did they fight?

Well, Santa Clause came to my house several times a year, always in December. If he thought we were good, he’d leave us a little special ornament beside our bed. If we were bad? Well, we’d get a big boat load of NOTHING and then fret what might happen once the BIG DAY arrived.

Anyway… the fights erupted because apparently Santa is not the neatest guy in the world. Even with all his magic, he always managed to knock down the fire grate in the formal living room, step on the ashes in the fire place, and drag soot all the way through the living room’s white carpets, up the stairs, and into our bedrooms.

Boy, was Mom mad every year. I never understood why she was yelling and laughing at the same time.

Ahhhhh… Christmas memories.

For my book Paper Wishes, I tried to create a wonderful memory that families could build on themselves... without the mess. Jill and her daughter have a wonderful way to make their Christmas wishes, and whenever they do this very special craft, their wishes always come true.

Be careful what you wish for, though! Sometimes wishes come true in very unexpected ways.

What’s your favorite Christmas memory?
