Review ~ Fatal Affair (Fatal #1) by Marie Force

Walking the thin blue line…

Detective Sergeant Sam Holland of the Washington, DC, Metro Police needs a big win to salvage her career—and her confidence—after a disastrous investigation. The perfect opportunity arises when Senator John O'Connor is found brutally murdered in his bed, and Sam is assigned to the case. Matters get complicated when Sam has to team up with Nick Cappuano, O'Connor's friend and chief of staff…and the man Sam had a memorable one-night stand with years earlier. Their sexual chemistry still sizzles, and Sam has to fight to stay focused on the case. Sleeping with a material witness is another mistake she can't afford—especially when the bodies keep piling up.
Nick Cappuano and Detective Sergeant Samantha “Sam” Holland have not spoken since their passionate one-night stand six years ago. Unfortunately, they are reunited when Nick discovers his best friend, United States Senator John O’Connor, murdered. Sam is under major pressure; too much negative press surrounded her last case. She needs to clear O’Connor’s murder – without any missteps - like sleeping with a material witness. But she is unable to deny Nick and the chemistry between them.

Author Marie Force gives the reader tons of suspects, each with definite motives. While the suspense elements were what initially drew this reader’s attention; it was the romantic bits (mixed with unique humor) that kept me engaged. You get to read/work alongside the couple as they investigate, work through clues and eventually eliminate suspects – it is a brisk paced romantic suspense.

Up Next book 2 of the Fatal Series, Fatal Justice
