Review ~ Secret Desire by Susan D. Taylor

The problem with twins is that they look so much alike…

By day, Claire Robertson is a staff writer for a small publication in Seattle. But when the lights go down, she writes sizzling and oh-so-naughty erotica. She keeps these stories safely tucked away, hiding her secret fantasies of her hero, Dustin Murray. The man who stole her heart six years ago. And then jumped into bed with her twin sister.

Dustin never forgot Claire, or her twin sister’s lies that tricked him into sleeping with her. Nor has he forgotten that her sister’s threats have kept him silent for six years and cost him the woman he loved. Now that Claire’s returned home, Dustin isn’t about to lose her again. But it’ll be another thing to convince Claire he’s prepared to do whatever it takes to win her back.

When Claire accidentally sends the wrong story to her editor, things really heat up. With hot the new black in publishing, her editor thinks he’s struck gold and queues the story for publication. The last thing Claire needs is for everyone to learn that she’s got secrets of her own…

Claire Robertson is a journalist in Seattle writing for Ethos magazine. While she loves her job she secretly craves to write erotica and has many stories and novels actually written and saved to her laptop. I found myself relating to Claire a lot and she felt like a very real person. Claire was a very nice girl that was more of a people pleaser rather than doing what she wanted to do. Finally she gets passed that and you really witness Claire coming into her own and I enjoyed watching it happen.

All of her heroines she portrays the way she wishes she could be with all the men portrayed after the same man, Dustin Murray, the love of her life and the only man to ever truly break her heart. Claire owes that heartbreak to her twin sister Fran but she doesn’t really know all the details. There was always a connection between Dustin and Claire growing up but one day Fran announced that Dustin was her boyfriend and nothing was the same after. Fran and Claire had a very strange relationship to me. Fran was super competitive with Claire and was seriously a bitch to her most of the time. They didn’t seem like they ever had a close relationship and even live on opposite sides of the country, Fran lives in New York.

She hasn’t seen Dustin since they both left their small North Carolina hometown for college and the wonders of adulthood. Claire finds herself needing to return to her hometown with a car accident leading to her parents’ very tragic death. Dustin recently moved back to their hometown and even purchased his parents’ house which is right next door to Claire’s parents’ house. So after all these years Claire will finally see Dustin again and she doesn’t know how she will handle it. It’s one thing to fantasize in the comfort of her home across the country but it is a whole other situation to be standing right in front of him in the flesh. The sparks fly between Claire and Dustin when they see each other again and Claire finally finds out why Dustin got involved with Fran instead of her in the first place.

Overall the story was on the short side and I would have liked for there to have at least been an epilogue going into Claire and Dustin’s future. I also would love to read Fran’s story. I think it would be interesting to get inside her head and find out why she is the way she is. Who knows maybe the author will write one for us.
