Review + Unwritten + Giveaway ~ In Flames by Jessica Jayne

Gracelyn Riley married a firefighter. She knew that came with risks. But she never imagined herself widowed in her early thirties with two children to care for on her own.

As a fireman, Matt Riley was at the scene when his brother, Chad, was killed. He suffered greatly from survivor’s guilt and depression after the accident.

The last year has been difficult for both Gracelyn and Matt. They’ve relied on each other to get through the tough times. With the anniversary of Chad’s death upon them, Gracelyn and Matt once again turn to each other for comfort and support. They find it in each other’s arms (and bed). Will their desire for each other consume them? Can they overcome the guilt and scrutiny to find love again…together?
A big thanks goes out to Books Books and More Books for hosting me and my latest release, In Flames,  on this blog tour.  I’m so appreciative of all the help the blog sites provide in getting my name and books out there!  Thank you so much!  That said, I’ve been asked to provide a guest blog entitled Unwritten.  For those of you that have yet to read In Flames (and I suggest you do J), the below deleted scene would have taken place after Matt and Gracelyn hooked up in the back of her Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Deleted Scene from In Flames

Matt pulled up to the Brier Hill Pub and parked his truck. Climbing out, he made the short walk to the front door of the place he’s always drowned his sorrows since he was legally able to drink. His head was all fucked up. Over dinner, he and Gracelyn agreed they couldn’t give into their physical desires, but the feel of her soft lips against his did him in… again. The next thing he knew, he had her pinned against the backseat of her Jeep and was buried deep inside her. He’d give anything to be there right now.

Pushing through the door of the pub, Matt found an empty stool along the bar and parked his backside on it. It was Saturday night, so the place was packed with locals.

“Hey, Matt,” Bruce said from behind the bar. “What’ll it be?”

“Shot of whiskey,” Matt groaned. Beer just wouldn’t take away the thoughts that rambled through his head or the heavy feeling that crushed his heart. Bruce poured the shot into a glass and slid it in front of Matt.

“That kind of night, huh?” Bruce asked, eyeing Matt carefully. Matt and Bruce had gone to high school together. They had played football together and remained pretty good friends.

“You have no idea,” Matt said before downing the shot. “Another, please.” He slid the shot glass back to Bruce, who filled the glass again.

“It’s been awhile since I’ve seen you in here asking for whiskey,” Bruce said. Matt didn’t miss the concern in his friend’s voice. He knew that everyone had worried about him after Chad’s death. He had drowned himself in alcohol for months. He wasn’t planning on going back there, but he wanted to numb things for tonight. “Everything ok?”

“Everything’s fucked up,” Matt said softly.

“You wanna talk about it?” Bruce asked, despite being called at from every direction at the bar.

“Not really. But thanks for asking.” Matt threw back the second shot of whiskey and let the amber liquid burn it’s way to his stomach. “Hit me again.” He slid the shot glass towards Bruce. He’d completely alienated Gracelyn now by walking out on her minutes after fucking her brains out. He was an ass. But he didn’t know how else to prevent this from turning into an even bigger mess. He’d fallen head over heels for her and that came with consequences…big ones.

About the Author:

I am a born and raised small town Ohio girl, who moved to the Sunshine State after graduating from college. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in English because I could not imagine doing anything else but reading and writing. It is such a pleasure to be able to share all the stories in my head!

In the journey of life, I also became a wife and a mother of three children. So, life is always an adventure. But the love of writing has never died.

My favorites: I love to read and write... obviously! But I also enjoy all sports, especially college football and the Ohio State Buckeyes! Go Steelers! Go Rays! I LOVE to travel... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to travel. And I love sharing my love to travel with my children. I love to drink Teavana teas! I love a good glass of wine, especially if it comes from a bottle made by the FOOLS wine club… yep, I’m a member of that! J I love hanging out with my family and my friends! Big fan of music, but love nothing better than putting on my jean shorts, tank top, cowboy boots and hat and watching Tim McGraw belt it out!

I’m a sucker for a cowboy hat! J  | WebsiteGoodreads | Facebook | Twitter |
