Guest Post + Review + Giveaway ~ Dishing Up Desire by Barbara DeLeo

Thanks so much for having me on Books, Books and More Books. I’m from Downunder —New Zealand, in fact—so it’s Friday here already, and just between you and me Thursday was AWESOME. You’re gonna love it!

So, about me....I live at the top of the South Island of New Zealand in wine country because my partner-in-parenting-crime is a winemaker. Could I have got any luckier? Well, just between you and me, I was hoping for a cheesecake maker but I’m not giving him back now I’ve run him in. {:o)

While he makes the wine, I write the books and together we try to work out what we must have done in a previous life to have been blessed with four children in two years. I’m thinking I must have either been one of those smug parents who are super organized and have socks that actually MATCH in the kids’ drawers, or else I was something like a nun who’d taken a vow of silence. Whichever it was, I’m certainly learning some lessons this time around!

The main lesson I’ve taken from these twelve parenting years is to have something in my life that’s completely for myself. In the old days it was just five minutes when I could go to the bathroom without eight eyes trained on me from the doorway. Now its my writing career which I’ve built so painstakingly from a sentence a day when the kids were babies, to a chapter week when they were in kindergarten, to three to four books a year now.

All that hard work resulted in me signing with the Indulgence line at Entangled Publishing and having my debut book Contract for Marriage release at the end of 2012. It’s a magical feeling to have worked so hard for a dream that has finally paid off. I’d always heard the advice to try and find your passion but it wasn’t until I was well into my thirties that I found out what that might be. Now, my second book Dishing up Desire is out in the world and I couldn’t be happier.

Kirin, the heroine in Dishing up Desire has a passion, her cooking business that she’s spent years building. Trouble is, she’s been accused of sexual harassment by a junior staffer and needs an urgent image makeover. Enter Blake Matthews—smoking hot ex-model and image consultant guru—who must turn Kirin’s image around in two weeks if he’s to acquire L.A’s most prestigious P.R firm.

But it’s not only Kirin’s image that’s about to be flipped. Blake might be very easy on the eye, but there’s a whole lot more to him than meets it. As Kirin starts to look beneath his smoldering looks and rugged charm, there are a few surprises in store, and Blake’s belief in what he sees in the mirror is one of them.
Image consultant Blake Matthews is facing his toughest PR challenge yet: salvage the image of celebrity chef Kirin Hart. Once he does, he'll be able to acquire LA's most successful PR firm. But Kirin's no easy fix. She's stubborn about changing her comfortable homemaker image, and is being sued for sexual harassment by a junior staffer. She needs a PR lifeline fast. Only problem is Blake wants more than to make her over... Kirin doesn't need a makeover--her fans love her as she is. But she could lose everything if the sex scandal and reputation that has followed doesn't get quashed right away. Kirin agrees to let model-perfect Blake work his magic for two weeks, but things get complicated when she can't deny the way her body flares to life whenever he's near.

Dishing up Desire was an excellent book. Karin was a chef whom got bad publicity and hurt her career severely. Blake was the man who was contracted to fix her image and put her life back together. Karin didn't want help especially from a man, She fought him the entire way including the attraction she had for him. I liked Karin immediately, she was strong-willed, quick, a heart of gold but very un-sure of herself. He husband had created her image and company, and after he died she didn't know who she was anymore.

Blake helped her gain her self-confidence back but he also had a specific way he wanted her image to be. Karin had the confidence to say no. Blake came across as pushy, selfish, bossy, uncaring but really that was the wall he had built to keep people out. This was a great read that I highly recommend!

Author Bio

Barbara DeLeo’s first book, co-written with her best friend, was a story about beauty queens in space. She was eleven, and the sole, handwritten copy was lost years ago, much to everyone’s relief. It’s some small miracle that she kept the faith and is now living her dream of writing sparkling contemporary romance with unforgettable characters.

After completing degrees in Psychology and English then travelling the world, Barbara married her winemaker hero and had two sets of twins.

She still loves telling stories about finding love in all the wrong places, with not a beauty queen or spaceship in sight.
