Review ~ The Best Man's Baby (A Red River Book) by Victoria James

Florist Claire Holbrook has always played by the rules her entire life, but breaks them to spend one night with sexy lone wolf Jake Manning, a man she's adored since she was a teenager. Six weeks later, things get complicated when she discovers they created a bond that will last a lifetime

Jake has never played by the rules. Getting Minister Holbrook's daughter pregnant wasn't part of any life plan, but he won't run from his responsibilities. He'll step up and be the best man he can, even if he doesn't have a clue where to begin. The more time he spends with Claire, though, the more he wants her, and the harder it is to get close, because that would mean sharing the one thing he hasn't with anyone--the truth and his heart.
The Best Man's Baby by Victoria James. I give this book a 5 of 5! And here's why.....

I like to read what I know and that revolves around historicals but something about this contemporary grabbed me from the start and I simply HAD to read it. Believe me when I say Victoria James didn't disappoint in The Best Man's Baby, which was just as good as the back matter -- and that is increasingly rare in today's market.

The story line between the incredibly believable characters of Claire and Jake (two people who could have been living right next door to me) kept my fingers flipping the pages to see how their romance unfolded, and if it would even unfold at all! The backstory was expertly interwoven as the main characters interacted with their family throughout the book -- leaving a massive surprise for later that not even the characters saw coming! I will be reading more of the RED RIVER series from Ms. James ... how could I not? I have to see what happens with these people! After all, when you're reading Ms. James, you ARE part of the story, experiencing the heartache, anger, hopefulness, embarrassment, and of course, love, right along with them.
